Chopper rides are set to be re-introduced this season. A couple of new tourism services are also being planned by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).
Required permissions for operating the Heli rides are being obtained from the director-general of civil aviation (DGCA), Goa Tourism introduced Heli rides in 2016 from a government-owned helipad at Aguada but was compelled to discontinue the service due to opposition by some locals. The rides continued during that season albeit from South Goa. They were stopped by May-end owing to logistic issues. Attempts by GTDC to reintroduce heli rides in the last two to three years failed as it could not finalize the ideal spot for a helipad. It wanted a centrally-located spot in the state. The other service that will be introduced this season, is 5D entertainment at Baga, Kumar said, adding that they are also in the process of finalizing a bidder for setting up a hanging restaurant at Anjuna.
A tender has been floated for setting-up a giant wheel in the state. Plus, a plan is also afoot to have land and sea-based adventure services for which an operator will be selected. Kumar said that selecting a location and the type of adventure activities will be left to the operator though he will be presented with locations that GTDC thinks can serve the purpose. This year, GTDC added to its list of adventure sports by introducing bungee jumping at Mayem.
