The Upper Mustang and Tiji Festival trek is basically focused on observing the unique, age old traditions of the mystical upper Mustang region of Nepal. The trek is carried out during the month of May, the date when Tiji festival falls. Upper Mustang has recently been opened for outsiders and requires special permit to trek across. Upper Mustang was formerly the Kingdom of Lo and the Tiji festival has been carried out form former times to chase away the demons. A three day ritual, this festival clusters around the Tiji myth. According to the myth the deity Dorje Jano saved the kingdom from the demon that makes water scarce in the arid Lo Kingdom.
